TRANSPORTATION
Roads:
Ukrainian system of public transportation is well-developed, and there are much less private automobiles than in the U.S. or western Europe.
Highways:
- Total: 169,477 km
- Paved: 164,732 km (15 km of expressways);
- Unpaved: 4,745 km (2004)
Railroads:
Railways are operated by the State Railway Company “Ukrzaliznytsia” and include:
- 23,350 km broad gauge of 1,520 mm (4 ft 117?8 in);
- 9,000 km broad gauge of 1,520 mm (4 ft 117?8 in) electrified;
- 201 km of 1,435 mm (4 ft 81?2 in) standard gauge, electrified.
Metro (subway).
- Kiev (one of the deepest stations in the world Arsenalna (102 meters) is found on the metro system). The Kiev Metro is operated by the state-owned city municipal company Kyivsky Metropoliten.
- Kharkiv (the metro is subordinate to the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine).
- Dnipropetrovsk (opened on December 29, 1995).
- Kryvy Rih (Metrotram - underground rapid tram system).
- Donetsk (currently under construction).
Waterways:
Total: 4,400 km navigable waterways on 7 rivers (most of them are on Danube, Dnipro and Pripyat rivers).
- Danube waterway is the most important waterway of Ukraine. Notable river ports on the Danube are Izmail and Reni.
- Dnipro waterway (the river is navigable through all its Ukrainian length). Notable river ports on the Dnipro are Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kakhovka, Kremenchuk, Kiev, Nikopol and Zaporizhzhia.
Major seaports:
Black Sea: Illichivsk, Kerch, Mykolayiv, Odessa, Sevastopol, Skadovsk, Feodosia, Yalta.
Azov Sea: Berdyansk, Mariupol.

Major airports:
- Boryspil Airport (One of Eastern Europe's largest airports. The airport handles about 60% of all commercial air traffic in Ukraine).
